Greg Patterson has been in the IT field for 17 years, the last 8 with BCD, where he is currently a Senior Sales Engineer. In addition to business development activities, Greg also coordinates pre-sales technical demonstrations and discussions, performs business analysis and is sometimes involved at the coding level for specific projects. Greg has a deep knowledge of BCD products from his time spent in support as a Senior Presto Support Specialist.
There are many different approaches to modernizing green screens and developing new IBM i web and mobile applications. In this session, you’ll learn the pros and cons of RPG OA, refacing, PHP and Node.js. If you have an HTTP application workload now, or are considering it in the future, please attend this session and see how easily it can be to administer, developer, and carve out multiple-environments without the complexity and overhead of another LPAR or full OS to manage.
You’ll also see technical demos of how to modernize green screens and develop new web and mobile applications with BCD’s Presto and WebSmart solutions.
Greg will give us 15 minutes covering the pros/cons of the various application modernization methodologies followed by two product demonstrations.

Topic: Cryptography / Encryption for the IBM i
Rich Diedrich is a Senior Technical Staff Member in the IBM Lab Services Power Systems Delivery Practice for IBM i. His specialties include application modernization, cryptography, application communication, and unusual requests. He has been working at IBM Rochester for more than a third of a century and in Lab Services for the last couple of decades.
His presentation covers everything from the history of, to an example PCI implementation. You will learn about these key points:

Mike Pavlak has been working with IBM midrange solutions since 1992 and IBM Mainframes before that. After years of developing applications using RPG, CL and PHP he managed IT development and IT for power protection manufacturer Tripp Lite.
Mike joined Zend Technologies as a Solutions Consultant working with the IBM sales team in 2008 and enjoys helping IBM i customers explore PHP as a state of the art solution for application modernization.
In addition to several roles as a volunteer with COMMON the premier IBM midrange user group, Mike also teaches PHP classes part time at Moraine Valley Community College in Suburban Chicago.
Mike lives in suburban Chicago with his wife, five kids, two dogs, two cats, a leopard spotted gecko, Russian tortoise, two rabbits, and a half dozen fish.

Kevin will speak to us about the Dealertrack journey and how they’ve built a world class operation on the IBM i. The session will touch on applications, technologies, databases, and share how the platform is being used to deliver global cloud solutions.
Kevin Murdock is the IT Director for Dealertrack DMS. At Dealertrack DMS, Kevin is responsible for a fast growing SaaS application used by 50k+ users in the auto dealership market. At the core of Kevin’s current architecture is the IBM i platform. High availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning are daily areas of focus for Kevin and his team. Just recently, Kevin and his team performed a successful production datacenter migration.
Kevin’s 15 year technology background has been focused on enterprise network & security, IBM Midrange computing, storage & virtualization, and datacenter services.
Kevin has a unique perspective from his experience as a customer and a solution provider. Kevin spent 4 years as a pre-sales engineer, providing technical solutions to multiple customers in the western states. These solutions included datacenter design, storage, virtualization, high-availability/disaster recovery and IBM Midrange architectures.
