 Guest Speaker:

George OdencrantzlogosOur speaker for the Christmas Luncheon this year will be George Odencrantz, Vice President of Information Technology at Sinclair Service Company. George will share with us the long history of technology at the Sinclair companies, what they are working on now and where he sees things going in the future.

Sinclair Oil is a privately held company owned by the Holding Family. It includes an oil and gas division, hospitality and resorts division and ranching division.  The oil and gas division refines about 35 million barrels of crude a year and sells over 2 billion gallons of finished product per year and has significant oil and gas exploration projects.  The hospitality division is represented by 7 hotels and 2 ski areas.  Our ranching division, located in Wyoming and Montana, farms about 30,000 head of cattle per year.

George has been with the Holding’s for 40 years. Starting at The Westgate Hotel in San Diego and spent 3 years at Sun Valley in Idaho before coming to the oil company in 1980.

Responsibilities include purchasing and managing computer systems, data communications and telecommunications for oil and hospitality. With a staff of 22 we manage to handle almost all of the IT functions for the company.

Our infrastructure include a couple of hundred servers, a couple of thousand desktops, three distributed control systems and the WAN/Lan’s to support them. We also support fifteen PBX’s and the trunks lines to support them.

We are also responsible for purchased and internally developed software that supports all of our business units.

Come join us for this year’s fun Christmas event!

Annual Christmas Luncheon

Come join us at our annual Christmas Luncheon to be held December 11, 2013 at the Golden Corall in West Valley City located at 3399 West, 3500 South at 11:30 a.m.

This month’s luncheon will feature two special speakers.

Fredrick and Esperance

Fredrick Ntabwoba and his wife, Experance Rugomwa, lived through the challenging 1990s racial upheavals in their homeland, Rwanda. With their three children, they escaped to a refugee camp in Zambia, where Fredrick was able to teach English and French at the local convent school. After four years in the camp and the tragic loss of their son, the couple and their two daughters were assigned to Salt Lake City, Utah, as refugees.

“I went to the British Library to find out about Utah,” Ntabwoba said. “I had never heard of it before, but it felt like the right place for us.”

A prayerful person by nature, Fredrick knew his family was watched over, especially after they arrived in Salt Lake City and a thoughtful volunteer service missionary couple stopped by their new apartment. The missionaries and the resettlement agency helped them find furnishings, food, household goods and their way around and through the services provided them in their new community.

“Since I was young,” Fredrick explained, “everywhere I’ve gone the way has been prepared for me. There were always people willing to help me.”

Now, after 13 years in Utah, Fredrick works at the Utah Department of Workforce Services to help other refugees navigate their resettlement. Esperance works as a case manager for one of the refugee resettlement offices in Salt Lake City.

We look forward to hearing from Fredrick and Esperance on December 11th.
