Our annual Christmas Luncheon is next Wednesday, December 14th at 11:30 am. It is a luncheon held at the Golden Corral in West Jordan at 8860 South Redwood Road. Remember, everyone attending will receive door prizes and a special drawing will be made for other special prizes.
Our Speakers are Christopher Roybal and Glen Lewis from Northwest Research. Below is a little bit of information about each of them.
Bio: Mr. Christopher A. Roybal is the President of Northwest Research. Mr. Roybal has spent over twenty years in business and economic development. Mr. Roybal began his career in management consulting followed by work in the economic development field. Mr. Roybal helped create Utah’s first incentive fund assisting major companies such as Boeing and Intel. Following his work as President and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah, Mr. Roybal was appointed by Governor Jon Huntsman as his Senior Economic Development Advisor wherein he co-authored the Governor’s Ten Point Economic Revitalization Plan. Upon completion of his assignment by Governor Huntsman, Mr. Roybal returned to the private-sector as President and COO of Northwest Research, a Salt Lake based logistics firm with operations in Utah, Tennessee and Canada. Mr. Roybal is married with three children and resides in Farmington, Utah. He holds a B.S. in Geophysics from the University of Utah and an M.B.A. from UCLA’s Graduate School of Management.
Glen Lewis is the Software Development Manager and Northwest Research and also wear the hats of Project Manager, Architect, DBA, Lead Developer, Business Analyst Mentor, Trainer Mentor and QA Manager. He has been writing and delivering software applications for more than 25 years, with his first application on the market when he was 16. He has been authoring and teaching programming courses based on real-world experience that entire time. Glen co-founded the Utah Java User Group which is now more than 10 years old. He also co-founded the Utah Mobile Developers Group in 2008. He has been a developer, trainer, project manager, director of development and VP of Engineering. He currently writes enterprise Java applications.
Glen will talk about the development tools and platform, build process, team structure and process, challenges faced and how NWR overcame them, integration and interop including: FTP, Screen scraping, web services, direct database connection, spreadsheet imports, coordination challenges with having a small organization working with a giant organization and the political and timeframe issues to navigate, ability to quickly deliver on “potential” solutions that turn into new and profitable lines of business, future technology challenges and solving them.
